We appreciate your patience as we are currently updating our website.
Our Sunday Service is from 10:30-11:40am, followed by morning tea.
We meet at Stoke Baptist Church, 648 Main Road Stoke, Nelson, NZ.
The design of our new banner heading is explained below:
The photograph of the ‘Stoke Oak’ references both our heritage and future growth as a church. The people who planted this tree never got to see its fullness – they planted to invest in future generations. Likewise, we have an inheritance in Christ, an inheritance that has been passed on by those who have gone before. The green of the oak leaves represents the fresh new growth brought by a God who is always looking to do a new thing.
The oak tree is a blessing to the community in all seasons: shade in summer, colour in autumn, presence and solidity in winter, and hope in spring. Like prayer, the vast network of roots is an unseen presence, holding together the very ground that people walk on. May we likewise be a blessing to our community.
The font used for the church name references our local context and the history of the railway reserve that runs through Stoke. There is another reference to the railway lines. Can you spot it? Our journey of faith leads us ever onwards!
The words ‘Authenticity, Community, Jesus’ summarise key elements of who we are as a church. We value being real together, we value connecting with and caring for one another, and above all, we love our Lord Jesus Christ. The contemporary font used for these words calls us to maintain this focus into the future.
Isaiah 61.1-3
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to bring good news to the oppressed;
he has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour…
that they may be called oaks of righteousness,
the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.
